We Act Locally

WE RESPECT BIODIVERSITY

Nature is the source of our inspiration, our treasures, our wonder. If we take care of her, she will take care of us.
But too many have taken too little care for too long, and the wonder is in danger of disappearing forever.

Each year, Together with our L'Occitane Foundation, L'Occitane South Africa awards a beneficiary with funding a local biodiveristy Project. See the latest projects we have had the priviledge of being involved with. and our local journey in respecting biodiversity.

WILD TOMORROW FUND

Wild Tomorrow Fund’s Greater Ukuwela NatureReserve, officially declared as a protected area in June 2021, added an additional 10 hectares (25 acres) of Sand Forest under legal protection in South Africa. However these remnant areas of sand forest has been damaged by prior cattle farming and the unmanaged take-over of invasive plants, meaning it requires active restoration.

GREENPOP | FORESTS FOR LIFE

Through this project, the Foundation and L’Occitane South Africa participated in the preservation of 15 varieties and the planting of 1500 trees.

The Forests for Life - Heartland Project aims to restore 1 hectare of forest land at Heartland Organic Farm through alien invasive plant
management, natural regeneration management, and active planting of 1500 indigenous tree seedlings. By improving forest land use, this project will
assist in increasing several ecosystem services for the local community including climate change adaptation, improved soil stability, increased species
biodiversity, and decreased fire risk. Additionally, this  project will support several community tree nurseries in the area thereby providing an income to those who run the nurseries and supporting the propagation of indigenous trees in the area.

FOOD AND TREES FOR AFRICA | SCHOOL GREENING MORINGA PROGRAME

In 2020, L’Occitane’s “Not Just a Gift” campaign focused on planting Moringa trees at schools in Mpumalanga. FTFA identified 30 schools that were previously supported through FTFA’s EduPlant programme and had the enthusiasm to plant, care for, and utilise the Moringa trees for the benefit of the schools’ learners. Staff and learners at these schools have received training in planting techniques and tree-care through the EduPlant programme. We look forward to seeing these trees flourish and providing the schools with the numerous benefits of Moringa trees for decades to come. L’Occitane generously donated funds to go towards planting a total of 900 Moringa trees at the schools.

The beneficiaries were overjoyed to receive and plant their trees – they got planting right away. Immense gratitude was expressed to L’Occitane for the donation of Moringa trees.
