Committed to fight avoidable blindness

Almost 285 million people around the world are blind or visually impaired, even though 80% of blindness is avoidable. L'OCCITANE supports the fight against avoidable blindness by supplying quality treatments and encouraging local initiatives since 2000.

PROJECT SOUTH AFRICA

Inspired by the work of the L'OCCITANE International Foundation in their continuous fight against avoidable blindness, L’OCCITANE South Africa launched a local partnership in October 2015 and fundraises money via special solidarity products and gift sets sold in store and on-line. L’OCCITANE Foundation helps co-finance the projects.

L’OCCITANE South Africa first partnered with The South African National Council for the Blind for 2016. The new partner for 2017 is Brien Holden Vision Institute with their project “Our Children’s Vision” that advocates for the integration of child eye health services within the School Health Program of the SA government and includes an eye screening of 70 000 school children.

THANK YOU for helping us exceed our target of R77 400

Last year, in the spirit of giving back, L'OCCITANE South Africa along with the L'OCCITANE International Foundation continued the fight against avoidable blindness through our partnership with the Brien Holden Vision Institute.
For every gift set sold last Christmas, we donated R 50. We are now able to provide eye screening to 70 000 children in South Africa within the “Our Children’s Vision” project.

REACHING NEW HEIGHTS FOR SIGHT

Since 2000, L’OCCITANE has been partnering with Orbis, a non-profit organization committed to sight. In particular, the company has supported the launch of the new Flying Eye Hospital, a one-of-a-kind aircraft that travels around the world training doctors and nurses on how to implement eye-saving procedures.  The new aircraft was unveiled in Los Angeles in June 2016 with a dedicated L'OCCITANE laser eye treatment room. It has recently hosted a training programme in China and is due to travel to Vietnam, Cameroon and Bangladesh later this year.
